01
Level one: carrier liability
€100 per m³ of the shipment, included in the transport price. The limit applies to the shipment as a whole, not to an individual item. Note the legal basis: the CMR Convention does not apply to household removals (Art. 1(4)(c)), so liability follows our contract rather than CMR.
02
Level two: the insurance policy
3% of the insured sum, minimum €90. All risks of physical loss or damage from an external cause (All Risks, American Institute Cargo Clauses). Cover runs warehouse to warehouse, including the ocean leg. Containerised shipments are insured on All Risks terms whether carried on or under deck; non-containerised shipments on deck are covered Free of Particular Average only — stranding, sinking, fire, collision, jettison or washing overboard.
03
The insured sum: rules that decide a claim
The entire shipment must be insured — a policy covering only part of the goods may be rejected, or co-insurance will apply. The sum must not be less than the replacement value: if it is, claims are reduced proportionally. No single item or set may exceed 50% of the total insured value, and the insurer's liability never exceeds the sum stated on the certificate.
04
The inventory and valuation form
Items not listed on the valuation form are not insured. Items or sets valued over USD 500 must be declared and valued separately — otherwise reimbursement will not exceed USD 500. Items under USD 500 must still be listed but may be grouped; in a claim, grouped items are averaged. With no valuation form submitted, insurance is purchased at a minimum of USD 8.00 per pound.
05
Who packed the goods changes the cover
Full cover of the contents applies when our crew does the packing. Boxes packed by the owner are accepted by count and external condition: cover for them is limited to the loss of a whole box, not to damage inside it. Decide on insurance before packing day — a full policy cannot be arranged later.
